WHAT IS THE HEALTH CHECK-UP ABOUT?

A health check-up allows you to “know your numbers”. Your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index are important markers of your overall health that indicate a healthier life. The Key Health Indicators are checked and any deviations will be observed carefully by our physicians and necessary advice would be provided to improve these. Some aspects which we go through during a health check up are:

  1. CBC – A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia
  2. Lipid Profile – The lipid profile is used as part of a cardiac risk assessment to help determine an individual’s risk of heart disease.
  3. Chest X-ray –The chest X-Ray is performed to produce images of the heart, lungs, airways, blood vessels and the bones of the spine and chest. Especially for smokers or individual affected by toxic substances.
  4. ECG – Electrocardiogram is to check the state of the heart muscles and the heartbeat rhythm from which the doctor can diagnose the existence of heart disease.
  5. Stool Routine Examination – To check the functioning of the excretion system. If any blood traces are found in stool, it can be caused by a disorder of the intestine.
  6. Urine Analysis – To examine if any irregularity in the urinary tract such as inflamed urine bladder or kidney disease.
  7. Liver Function Test – This screening test can help us to detect the presence of liver disease from an early stage. Examination for any abnormalities of liver enzymes and bilirubin metabolism.
  8. Kidney Function Test – This test is done to detect abnormalities in kidney function.
  9. Ultrasound Abdomen – To diagnose abnormalities in various internal organs, such as the kidneys, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and abdominal aorta.
Are children’s vision screenings helpful?

Good vision is essential for children to reach their full academic potential. It’s been widely stated that roughly 80 percent of what children learn in school is presented visually, and vision problems can have a profound effect on learning.

According to the American Optometric Association, an estimated 20 percent of preschool children have vision problems. Other research shows that 24 percent of adolescents with correctable refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism) don’t have their vision fully corrected with up-to-date prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Do adults need more frequent eye exams?

On the other end of the age spectrum, many older Americans often forgo routine eye exams and falsely believe that free vision screenings offer adequate monitoring and protection of their eyesight.

This is extremely dangerous, since the most common causes of blindness — glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration — increase with age. Vision loss often can be prevented or reduced if these conditions are diagnosed and treated early. But the only way this can be done is to have routine comprehensive eye exams.

Don’t take chances with your eyesight as you get older. It may be sufficient to have a comprehensive eye exam every two years in your early adult life. But if you’re over age 60, have an annual eye exam to preserve your vision and make sure you are seeing the world as clearly as possible.
